This release of Strange Omen Brandy is unlike anything we’ve crafted before—a marriage of two vineyards, two grape varieties, and one vision to transform good fruit into something truly exceptional.
It begins with a story…
🍇 Two Vineyards. One Vision.
Some time ago, David and Julie Llewellyn—the original founders of Priory Ridge Vineyard, nestled just outside St Helens—came to us with a dilemma. A recent vintage of their Chardonnay hadn’t quite hit the mark. Not bad wine—but not their best either.
What if it could become something more?
So, we took that Chardonnay. And we blended it with our own Ironhouse Sauvignon Blanc, grown on the shores of the Tasman Sea, just minutes from where the spirit would later rest. Both parcels of wine, each from East Coast Tasmanian vineyards, were then distilled, refined, and aged in virgin American oak barrels.
The result: a truly East Coast Tasmanian brandy, layered, full-bodied, and profoundly unique.
👃 Nose
Bright and bold, with warm vanilla, toasted almond, citrus peel, and dried apricot. A touch of coastal salinity lingers in the background.
👅 Palate
Rich and full, with an oily mouthfeel. Expect bursts of golden raisin, sweet fig, buttery oak, and soft almond. The virgin American oak lends a bold vanilla sweetness, beautifully balancing the grape-driven intensity. There’s heat here—a big, warm cask-strength heart—but it’s softened by the roundness of fruit and the barrel’s smooth embrace.
🔥 Finish
Lingering, luscious, and mineral-rich. Toffee warmth meets gentle spice—cinnamon, nutmeg—and a final flourish of vineyard-driven grape skin and oak char.
